Conditions

Hip

The hip joint is a ball and socket joint between the pelvis (socket) and the top of the thigh bone (femoral head – the ball). Under normal conditions, the bony surfaces in this joint are completely covered with cartilage. The joint is encased in a fibrous capsule and held together by muscles, tendons, and ligaments which also ensure proper alignment and movement. Any one or more of these structures can become damaged by injury or degeneration which can lead to pain and limited mobility. This can seriously impact daily activities and quality of life. Until recently, steroid injections, addictive opioids, and surgery (total hip replacement) have been the only options for patients who failed to respond to conservative care.

The team at Regen Doctor is able to treat a range of hip and thigh conditions without reverting to steroid injections, addictive medications, or surgery. We offer outpatient PRP and/or stem cell procedures which can treat a range of conditions such as hip arthritis, labral tears, avascular necrosis, tendonitis and various other problems. These treatments can eliminate pain and restore function without the prolonged pain and rehabilitation required following surgical repair including total joint replacement.

Conditions We Treat

Osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip is also known as wear and tear or degenerative arthritis. In this condition the cartilage in the hip is damaged and lost over time and the bones start grinding together. This leads to reactive bony overgrowth and significant pain and reduced mobility. The pain tends to be worse with activity, but is often present even at rest. It is a very common condition particularly in those over the age of 45 and those who are overweight. Trauma to the hip can accelerate arthritis and lead to premature development of arthritis in younger people as well. Traditionally, steroid injections could sometimes produce temporary relief, but many patients eventually required total hip replacement which involves considerable post-op pain and prolonged recovery time. However, by using PRP and/or stem cell treatments, these procedures and their problems can often be completely avoided. With regenerative medicine, the body’s cells are used to regenerate joint tissues and alleviate pain and dysfunction. Additionally, the treatment can be provided on an outpatient basis, which means you will not even need to stay in a hospital for any length of time.

Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head (ONFH)

ONFH means that the head of the femur bone has actually died due to compromised blood supply. This is generally a problem associated with the elderly, but it can actually occur at any age, particularly as a result of illness or trauma, but in many cases the cause is not known. Until recently, patients had no choice but to deal with the pain until they could have hip joint replacement surgery. Now, however, PRP and stem cell treatments could help to regenerate the bone tissue itself, eliminating the pain without more invasive surgery.

Greater Trochanteric Bursitis

The trochanteric bursa overlies the greater trochanter of the femur in the upper lateral thigh. This fluid filled sac provides a cushion between the thigh bone and overlying tendons. This helps to reduce friction between the bone and tendons and allows free movement. Bursitis in this area is often associated with and indistinguishable from tendonitis and can be caused by injury or excessive movement. Sometimes there is no discernible cause. It is a painful condition that causes people to limp and hurt even at rest. Until now, conventional treatments sometimes provided only temporary relief.  Through PRP and stem cell treatment, however, the body can be set to work in repairing itself, thereby providing lasting relief.

Ischial Tuberosity Pain Treatment and Treatment for Ischial Bursitis

When the bursa between the hamstring tendon and the ischial tuberosity becomes inflamed, patients develop ischial tuberosity bursitis. The condition is usually a result of a sports injury, particularly those that cause tendonitis or strain of the hamstring tendon or muscle. Symptoms tend to include pain while sitting, particularly in the lower buttocks, as well as numbness or tingling in the lower leg or when flexing the knee. Traditional therapies often fail to provide adequate sustained relief. However, the alternative is to choose stem cell or PRP treatment, which means the cells of your own body are used to regenerate the tissues and eliminate inflammation.

Hamstring strain, also colloquially known as a pulled hamstring, is an injury in which the hamstring muscle or tendon fibers at the back of the thigh tear as a result of overstretching. The injury is generally graded on a scale of 1 to 3 depending on the severity, with 3 meaning the patient has lost almost all mobility due to complete hamstring tear. Injuries to the hamstring are particularly common in athletes, although they can also occur in those who have very poor muscle strength. The pain is often very sudden and follows a popping sound in the area. The back of the thigh then becomes swollen, tender and bruised. This injury is often resistant to conventional treatments and recurrent in nature, but the Regenerative Medicine Specialists in Camarillo, California could help your body repair itself through PRP and stem cell treatments.

Quadriceps strain, aka pulled quadriceps, is an injury in which the four grouped muscles and tendons at the front of the thigh tear as a result of overstretching. The injury is generally graded on a scale of 1 to 3 depending on the severity, with 3 meaning the patient has lost almost all mobility due to complete quadriceps tear. Generally, a quadriceps strain is a sports injury, although a full hit to the area or overuse can also be to blame. Once a strain has happened, it is highly likely to reoccur. Through PRP and stem cell treatment, the rupture can be resolved by regenerating the tissue within the body itself. This is done in-office, meaning you don’t need to spend any time in the hospital at all and down time is minimized.

Iliopsoas tendinitis, aka snapping hip syndrome, is a medical condition characterized by a snapping sensation felt when the hip is flexed and extended. This may be accompanied by an audible snapping or popping noise and pain or discomfort. Pain often decreases with rest and diminished activity. Snapping hip syndrome usually occurs when one of the hip tendons thickens and catches with motion, but can less frequently be due to problems inside the hip joint as well. Conventional treatments often fail to adequately address symptoms which can be very distressing and disabling. The alternative is to choose PRP or stem cell treatment which can work where all else has failed. Furthermore, this procedure can be done on an outpatient basis without the need for a hospital stay.

The iliolumbar ligaments connect the hip bones to the lower lumbar spine. They help stabilize this area of the body which is particularly vulnerable to injury and pain. They provide support and allow movement around the 4th and 5th lumbar vertebrae. Tears, sprains, strains, and other injuries that are usually related to sports cause pain in this area. As a result, the area stiffens up, which can cause a lot of pain. Once that happens, a full tear, known as iliolumbar syndrome, becomes more likely. Low back pain is one of the most common causes for patients seeking medical help and for work disability in the United States. Until now, many patients ended up turning to chronic opioids or surgery for relief with mixed results and were often worse off than when they started. However, PRP and stem cell treatments are a viable alternative, where the tissue itself is repaired by the body’s cells. It is done in the office with minimal down time afterward.

As you can see, there is not always a need to revert to painful surgery or steroid injections. The doctors at Regenerative Medicine Specialists are there to help you find relief from your hip or thigh conditions in a supportive and safe environment. By using your body’s own cells, almost any condition can be improved, and all that on an outpatient basis. Stem cells get to work on regenerating tissue, using your own cells to achieve this.
